lumpy, bumpy, and cottontail

Yeah. I have a strong policy to divert eye contact with the girls lately. TMI? You betcha. Every since I’ve stopped the whole BFing, lumps have migrated from near the armpit, to that spot that would be last stop before exit… I’m sore. Really sore. I can’t sleep on my stomach these days.  I really hate every lactation guide out there.  I swear they all would have you dropping your kid off at their frat/sorority house still attached to the boob.  The books and guides out there do not address what really happens when you give up the boob; they don’t talk about the soreness, the fact that there is liquid trapped in there that must come out, the deformed shapes that your breasts will take on…I can go on but will not.  I am assuming that like everything, each woman is different, some will quit BFing/pumping and have no side effects, and some will quit and wonder what the hell is going on with their bodies, like me! I was so miserable this morning I got out the dreaded pump to “take the edge” off. I am hoping that by the weekend, when I hit two weeks from quitting, this phase will magically pass. There’s a few home remedies I’ve heard of out there, one is cabbage leaves in your bra (feels good but stinks), another is sage tea (sounds disgusting to me), and a few other essential oils I’ve yet to try.  Until then, it’s sleeping on my side for me…

  1. Um, have you tried a hot shower and just squeeze the hell out of them while you're in there? I got plugged ducts too (OW), but that seemed to help.

  2. I read this article today that I resonated with: http://mommynewsblog.com/breastfeeding-does-it-really-need-to-be-all-or-none/

I'm wondering what in the hell is going on with my body too. The shower has worked for me to take the edge off. You've done awesome.

Your little guy is so cute. My daughter is at the same point starting with Cheerios, its so much fun! :)

  3. Jane, I just read that article today also. Very interesting.

And yes ladies, I try the showers too. It does feel good. And cold feels good. Sleeping on feels bad. Holding baby too close feels bad. Ugh, soon it will end! They're feeling better today, and hopefully better tomorrow!
