It doesn’t seem like a lot has been going on, but I took almost a week off last week to be with the baby while daycare shut down, and it was awesome! I love being home with him all day! It makes my coming to work so much harder after spending that much time with the little guy. Every day seems there’s some new bit of his personality that emerges, and I just don’t want to miss anything. With the exception of fighting us on diaper changes and having a knack for finding the one thing in a room he should not have, he’s really easy going. I keep telling him to not fight the changes, that it gets worse as you get older, and no one is lining up to clean you up after you go potty, but he hasn’t listened yet.
Much thanks to Sean, we converted the nursery/office to solely being the nursery. Sean moved around furniture and unnecessary items from our bedroom and into the garage to make room for our massive (ok, just large) computer desk. This served to free up the baby’s room so it is only his stuff. We even moved the rocker into his room so either of us can sit with him and read or give him his bottles. I cleared up some space on the floor and made things generally safe in there (I still wouldn’t leave him unsupervised, but that’s me). What prompted all this? Aside from the fact that the office desk/chair/printer are not safe for baby to pull himself up on, the laptop crapped out. This meant that Sean would be very limited in job searches while the computer was in the hospital (those with Macs, shut it, I do not want to hear one word) because of the babies nap and sleeping schedules. We couldn’t, or didn’t want to, afford that down time. Let’s face it, homie needs a computer! Since our bedroom is so huge, the office in there just works, we are only missing a mini-fridge (which we own) in there, and it’s bigger than any dorm room, and about the size of a studio apartment.
With the exception of maybe two nights, sleeping has been going pretty darn well in our household, finally! The baby has taken to sleeping the night, from 8/8:30 pm until around 7am. Some mornings I need to still wake him up to get him to daycare and myself out the door. Otherwise, 7am is pretty much his preferred wake up time, and sometimes after a clean diaper and bottle, he’ll go back down within an hour. He did this on Sunday, woke up at 7, played for an hour, and then went back to bed until 10:30am. Hello! He’s pretty much settled on a nap schedule for us as well, two per day lasting at least an hour each. Sometimes he resists, but that last no longer than 20 minutes and means he just entertains himself in the crib.
Birthdays! ‘Lil D will be turning one in just about a month! I cannot believe almost a solid year since he was born has passed. We wanted to do something special to mark the occasion, but realizing the whole time it is for us, and he won’t know what’s going on just yet. Since my birthday falls only 10 days later, we thought we’d combine the two occasions for a few reasons; everyone’s time is precious. We love to celebrate birthdays, but it’s hard to fit in everything you want to do, so let’s get everyone together once and just have fun. The weekends were limited in August to make sure that Sloan would be home to attend as the big sister. I also didn’t want to celebrate before his actual birthday, which left the weekend of my real birthday. That’s cool with me! I don’t mind sharing, for now! So, being that it’s a combo day, and mostly because it’s the baby’s FIRST birthday celebration, anyone not attending is pretty much on the shit list, err, off the Christmas card list, that’s what Evite says and I’m sticking to it. Maybe a one year old’s parties isn’t the most fun of choices out there for some, but it's pretty darn monumental in this house!
Grandpa is coming for a visit to California this week. He’ll stop by to see baby on Saturday and then spend more time in town the end of next week. I can’t wait to show off the little guy, and maybe get to go out with Sean alone for a night! (Hey, they offered to baby sit). The last time my dad was out was at Christmas time and ‘D was only about 4 months old, so lots of changes have happened since then! Standing, crawling, teeth, food…oh my!
To be fair, the laptop did not get a virus or stop running. Somehow a short or disconnection between the monitor and the main computer occurred (the connections are apparently subject to wear and tear when you open/close your laptop). The only reason it has been gone so long is because BB had to send it back to ASUS. Otherwise, the laptop works just fine!
ReplyDeleteThis is true...It was not a malfunction on the performance level but a wiring issue.
