Swaddling: a lesson learned

I will let baby tell you when he/she is ready to not be swaddled any longer. At 5 month I really thought that 'Lil D was old enough to not be swaddled. He usually always gets out, so I thought to myself, let's cut out the swaddle all together. I started the one arm, I went cold turkey a night here and there. The result, last week, waking up every 3 hours on the dot, screaming. We went away to visit mother-in-law overnight on Saturday. To spare the house of cries, we said we'll swaddle him for the night. The result you ask while sitting on the edge of your seat: He slept through the night "like a baby". He woke up at 5:30am for a feeding, went back to bed until about 8:30. In fact, Sean and I woke up before he did! When we went to check on him, he was laying in his pack n play talking to his overhead animals.
So the lesson I learned, age will not determine when he is too old to unswaddle, baby will tell us. It's nice to have our sleep back!
