Now that I have a baby who is beginning to eat, I am thinking about everything I am putting into his body. I feel great about the BM he's able to get, even though we do use formula as well. Now that he's eating some real foods, I want him to have the best. I have bought some Stage 1 foods from Gerber and Beech Nut, however, the jarred food kind of irks me for some reason. Mainly, if ALL you are getting is sweet potatoes, why use them from a jar when they are $0.59/lb, and take an hour to bake and 2 minutes to puree, and don't have preservatives when made yourself? So, last week I'd went to the little produce store I mentioned last post. Today I stopped at the DeMartini Orchard and purchased some more items for the house, as well as snap or sweet peas that I'll cook up next for the baby. Peas may be tricky as you have to shell them, boil, puree, and possibly strain, but I'm willing to try! So as long as baby likes what he's eating, I'm going to continue to do my best to purchase the best ingredients for him. By going to the local stores I feel good about buying locally grown and/or organic produce. Win win! This article also helped me as well.
On a side and note that isn't related to feeling good...I really really really am struggling with not being bitter about work. I am grateful to have a job, yes. I am very bitter about the fact that this company is notorious for hiring family members, referrals, and spouses. When I walk around and see all the pairs, I really feel singled out that my other half isn't here. I know I have to get passed this, I have to. It's not healthy, and I need to focus on keeping my job and letting a poor attitude cloud it. It's just so dammed hard! Suggestions on keeping focused are welcomed, all my silent readers...
If you are really interested in making your own food, there is a great book out there called Super Baby Foods. It tells you all about what you can prepare and store and what food actually may become dangerous if stored improperly. I read the book and liked it but it ended up being too much work for me. Good luck!
